By the time Art in Liverpool was established, in 2004, Liverpool had a much more vibrant, confident, art scene. Tate Liverpool was firmly established, and the Walker Art Gallery’s exhibitions had become less formulaic, and had more popular. Progress had also been made at grass level: Not only did Art in Liverpool have an interesting art scene to talk about, but their potential audience undoubtedly covered a cross-section of society that 10 and certainly 20 years prior would not have been interested.

That Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture in 2008 served to consolidate what has been an intensely interesting period for the Liverpool art scene. We therefore enjoy this art blog as much for its historical interest, as for its ongoing new coverage – and think art lover visiting Liverpool, particularly those from outside the UK, will find this aspect adds to the enjoyment of their visit to this City.
