Curated by Catherine Borra, artists featured in “The Bunker” include Jenny Moore-Koslowsky, Justin Gainan and Pim Conradi. This is Conradi’s first public exhibition, despite the fact that he’s in his sixties. The artist, who lives in an art squat in Peckham, makes Buckminster Fuller-esque geometrical structures out of found materials.

The Bunker is propelled by the search for different spaces and modes of operation. Pushing expectations for the future forward, we can trigger the motor of history to act, evolve and motion.

The Centre of the Universe is a nomadic art space run by Catherine Borra, Nina Trivedi, Olivia Hegarty, Gedvile Bunikyte, Jordan Hunt & Matthew Stone. They organise art exhibitions and events in spaces accessed for free.

Not quite an exhibition, but a deep challenge to an environment. In an abandoned and unidentified post-war bunker, spreading out underneath Dalston, East London, this show is a response to the space it inhabits and to the history it recalls.

Floating Coffins was filmed on the little known but beautiful coastline of Mauritania, a bird watcher's paradise. It is also where the world's shipping is beached and broken up, drawing parallels with another of the region's characteristics - the habour city of Nouadhibou, which has become a point of departure for African migrants trying to reach Europe.

This unique phenomenon on the Saharan shores represents both a hazard to shipping and an ecological threat. Also the sea becomes a space of ‘decline' and an inactive landscape where lifeless ships and human bodies can be found rejected by the sea.






Acclaimed international artist Zineb Sedira is also showing new photographic and light box works to accompany Floating Coffins at Rivington Place.

The installation is presented on a complex arrangement of 14 screens with layered sound compiled by Mikhail Karikis. The work lingers with surreal ease on figures removing scrap, birds arriving, and the extraordinary landscape where desert, sea and man's struggle to survive, all combine.

Works about performance made for the camera's moving image or audio equipment's sound. This exhibition explores how performance can be mediated by film and will attempt to question what constitutes a performance and how a film or recording of this can reach beyond documentary practice. Athanasios Argianas has been preoccupied with the possibilities and limitations of transferring the structure of language.
Elements of one language are separated and used to form the base for another.

Kim Coleman & Jenny Hogarth present documentation of their performances and interventions. The artists often use light as a medium and a subject, working with projected video and lighting apparatus to produce illusionistic or theatrical results.
Simon Faithfull’s ideas can be described as an ongoing investigation into the incomprehensible scale of the earth as an object. Faithfull will exhibit an early video piece, ‘Going Nowhere’ 1996, a pivotal work which prefigures camera experiments such as '30Km' 2003 or interventions such as 'Shy Fountain’ - a fountain that only exists when no-one is there'

Where Open Houses transform homes into galleries, HOUSE inverts this concept, bringing the ‘domestic’ into local small galleries and art spaces. HOUSE includes six curated projects - featuring special commissions, outsider art and a home cinema - that draw on different artists’ interpretations of this theme.

Phoenix Brighton hosts visits to the studios of six Phoenix artists. These artist-led tours will introduce visitors to nationally and internationally acclaimed artists who work in the city, but rarely exhibit here. The tours provide a wonderful opportunity for informal discussion with the artists.

The final element links HOUSE and the Artists Open Houses festival. Selectors’ Choice, upstairs at The Regency Town House, showcases work by artists exhibiting in the Open Houses. The exhibition mixes accomplished, dynamic and thought provoking work in a stunning gallery space.

HOUSE brings a rich mix of diverse and innovative new work to the Brighton festival season. It might lead you to you think again about the simple domestic space.

Semiconductor - Brilliant Noise

Brilliant Noise takes us into the data vaults of solar astronomy. After sifting through hundreds of thousands of computer files, made accessible via open access archives, Semiconductor have brought together some of the sun's finest unseen moments. These images have been kept in their most raw form, revealing the energetic particles and solar wind as a rain of white noise. This grainy black and white quality is routinely cleaned up by NASA, hiding the processes and mechanics in action behind the capturing procedure. Most of the imagery has been collected as single snapshots containing additional information, by satellites orbiting the Earth. They are then reorganised into their spectral groups to create time-lapse sequences. The soundtrack highlights the hidden forces at play upon the solar surface, by directly translating areas of intensity within the image brightness into layers of audio manipulation and radio frequencies.
